Breathtaking attention to detail on Parmigiani’s Tonda 1950 Galaxy

The unique selling point of Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda 1950 Galaxy is the astonishing attention to detail on the dial.

The brand is lucky enough to have some truly inspired master dial-makers working in its Manufacture. At their work benches, they are continuously experimenting, testing and inventing, ensuring that every dial that passes through their hands is of a standard that is second to none.

On the Tonda 1950 Galaxy the dial has been imbued with a colour inspired by the night sky.

The sombre midnight blue shade is one of the most complicated to reproduce and it needed a material created by a chance encounter to bring it to life: aventurine glass.

Aventurine glass came about when an 18th century glass blower in Murano dropped a sliver of copper into melted glass.

Crushed then recomposed, aventurine glass contains copper inclusions which give it an unmistakable sparkle.

The wearer’s gaze is drawn to this starlit sky, surrounded by the bezel and case set with diamonds. On the crown, a milky white opal, provides the finishing touch.

Underneath the bonnet, the watch is driven by the PF702 proprietary movement. This self-winding mechanical movement and its beautiful finishes can be admired through the watch’s sapphire caseback.

The case and the appliques are made from rose gold and this special edition comes with a black Hermès alligator strap.

The Tonda 1950 Galaxy retails at £18,900. For any enquiries call Atelier Parmigiani on: 020 7495 5172.
