The Mount Street premises of royal jewellers and gun-maker William & Son was attacked in a shock afternoon robbery yesterday (Janaury 29).
According to an official statement from The Metropolitan Police force, officers were called to the London premises at 12.27pm following reports of a smash-and-grab raid.
It is understood that “around” eight suspects riding motorbikes attempted to rob William & Son. Other reports on the MailOnline claim that the men were wielding metal baseball bats and sledgehammers and used them to smash windows.
The suspects failed to rob the store and left the scene empty-handed in the direction of Tottenham Court Road.
A man in his 50s – believed to be the security guard – suffered a head injury during the incident, which is allegedly highlighted by Twitter user @nickrenegade in the picture above. The guard’s injuries are not life-threatening.
According to the same article on the MailOnline, the same security guard “threw himself against door to keep raiders out” managing to lock one door before using his body to barricade an adjoining door. Other witnesses are quoted as saying that the attack went on for five minutes before the robbers gave up trying to smash through the bullet-proof glass and ran away.
Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made as of yet. Officers from the Met’s Flying Squad are investigating.
