The stars turned out to help luxury watch brand Bovet 1822 raise $1.2million (£773,000) for peace and justice.
The glittering party was staged during the Toronto International Film Festival with guests including Dame Helen Mirren, Susan Sarandon, Moby, Arcade Fire, director Paul Haggis and Bovet 1822 owner Pascal Raffy. Funds were raised through a charity auction of spectacular lots.
Thanks to the watch brand’s support, Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) was able to give one hundred percent of funds raised during the evening at the spectacular Casa Loma museum to “supporting health, dignity and education initiatives in Haiti”.
Bovet and AJP entered into partnership in 2012 and in late 2013 the watch brand committed to donated $1million to the organisation’s educational efforts in Haiti, including the Academy for Peace and Justice, Haiti’s first free high school that has since provided 2,000 students with education beyond primary school age.
Paul Haggis, Academy-Award-winning filmmaker and APJ founder gratefully, stated: “With the generous donations from our supporters, we are proud to recognize the first-ever graduating class from the APJ Academy, a true testament to our organization’s commitment to educating Haitian children and providing them the life skills they need to thrive in their own communities.”
Raffy added: “It is not for the benefit of my house, but the future of the children. We should never be ashamed of wealth and success, enjoy it, but it is also our duty to give back. I applaud the true gentlemen and ladies who have joined us in making a difference.”
