Boutros appointed US head of Phillips watch department

Phillips auction house has appointed watch expert Paul Boutros as its new head of watches for the Americas.

Boutros’ appointment follows his role as consultant in which he was ‘instrumental’ in setting up the watches department and his initiatives ‘directly contributed’ to the $80m (£57m) in sales that Phillips’ watch department made in its first year of trading (2015).

His new appointment also includes the title international strategy advisor for Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo.

Aurel Bacs, senior consultant, said, “It has been a pleasure to develop the Phillips Watches Department with Paul as our consultant in New York, and I couldn’t be happier with his appointment as Head of Americas. Paul Boutros perfectly represents the combination of skills the Phillips Watches Department prides itself on and the values it stands for: passion, scholarship, professionalism, integrity and a flawless reputation within our community.”

Boutros is a specialist in the authentication and valuation of collectible wristwatches, advising clients on obtaining investment-grade watches and collections. As the International Strategy Advisor for Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo, Mr. Boutros will lead the company’s traditional and digital marketing efforts while also helping guide the department’s strategic growth initiatives.

In his spare time, Mr. Boutros writes about the world of watches, promoting the timeless appeal of luxury mechanical watches. Appearing on television programs to share tips on vintage watch collecting, he frequently participates in talks for luxury brands and publications, leading discussions on the art of watch collecting.
