Blancpain creates Traditional Chinese Calendar watch to celebrate upcoming Year of the Dog

Blancpain has created a new Traditional Calendar watch ahead of the coming lunar New Year of the dog.

The watch is based on fundamental principles established for millennia and profoundly rooted in Chinese tradition. Its dial shows the hours, minutes and the Gregorian calendar alongside with the main indications of the Chinese calendar including traditional double-hour indication, day, month with indication of leap months, signs of the zodiac, as well as the five elements and the 10 celestial stems.

Together, the indications follow the sixty-year cycle that is central to Chinese culture. A symbol of the dog is shown at 12 o’clock.

The moon phases, a key element in Blancpain complete calendars, are also presented and play a particularly important role in this model, given the link between the lunar cycle and traditional Chinese months.

The watch comes in a limited 45mm platinum or non-limited edition red gold case housing a self-winding Calibre 3638.
