The British Horological Institute is once again opening the doors of Upton Hall to the general public next month.
The next BHI Museum Trust Open Day takes place on Sunday 25 October (10am-4pm), on the day the clocks go back to signal an end to British Summer Time.
Ray Walford, chairman of the BHI Board of Directors: "People travel to museums across the UK to see famous timepieces from the past and present, but they often don’t realise that right on their doorstep is one of the best collections of antiquarian and contemporary watches and clocks."
Visitors to the Grade II Listed Nottinghamshire HQ of the BHI will be able to admire a rare 19th century Vulliamy wall clock in Upton Hall’s ballroom for the first time. The clock was recently acquired from Somerset House in London and is the latest piece in the BHI Museum’s collection which will be available to view on the day.
Younger members of the family will also be catered for with a teddy bear hunt and colouring clock faces while professional hands-on watch and clock workshop demonstrations will also be held.
The ticket fee (£5 or £3 to BHI members; with under 16s free) includes a free valuation. Visitors are invited to bring watches, clocks and other timepieces that curator Alan Midleton will value. Viscount Midleton is curator of the BHI collections.
