Beaverbrooks moves up a place in top 10 of The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2020

Jeweller also named as UK’s best mid-sized retailer while chairman Mark Adlestone OBE DL and managing director Anna Blackburn named as UK’s Best Leaders.

Beaverbrooks moved up one place from tenth to ninth in this year’s The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For 2020. It came top of the list for best mid-sized retailer to work for during 2019, the group’s centenary year.

The study looks at how companies perform in key areas including leadership, staff wellbeing, attitudes towards bosses, feelings towards the company, teamwork, giving something back, fairness and personal growth for employees.

For the second year running, the company’s chairman, Mark Adlestone OBE DL, and managing director, Anna Blackburn, were also named as UK’s Best Leaders.

Beaverbrooks’ long-running commitment to raising money and awareness for charities led to it receiveing a special award for Giving Something Back due to it earning the highest three star accreditation for 17 consecutive years in the study.

Beaverbrooks, which now operates 71 stores across the UK, has donated £14 million to over 750 charities since the year 2000 thanks to a policy of donating 20% of retained post-tax profits to charity.

“Beaverbrooks’ 100th anniversary year has been nothing short of incredible and to win a trio of awards and be recognised for our efforts in our centenary really is the culmination of an exceptional 12 months. We’re both honoured and privileged to be recognised as UK’s Best Leaders for the second year running,” say Mr Adlestone and Ms Blackburn in a joint statement.

Beaverbrooks is showing that being a great place to work translates into improved business performance as well. It its centenary year, the group posted a sixth most consecutive profitable year in its 100-year history.

“Our focus on our people absolutely translates into profitability and high levels of employee engagement; it is no coincidence we received our highest ever response rate to the Best Companies engagement survey (93%) and we continue to buck the national trend on the high street in terms of sustained financial success year on year,” the statement from Mr Adlestone and Ms Blackburn continues.
