Beaverbrooks boss spends night on the streets in charity fundraiser

A team from the family-run business braved the bad weather to support homeless charity, Streetlife.

Beaverbrooks’ managing director and eleven colleagues braved the bad weather as they spent a night on Blackpool’s streets, raising almost £7,000 for homeless charity Streetlife.

A total of 150 volunteers battled Storm Hannah on Friday and Saturday evening, to raise money and show their support for homeless young people and rough-sleepers. The groups stayed out until 6am and are hoping to raise more than £30,000 for Streetlife.

This year Beaverbrooks sponsored The Big Sleepout and is the fourth year the family-run business has have supported the annual event.

Beaverbrooks’ managing director, Anna Blackburn, who cut the ribbon at this year’s Big Sleepout, comments: “The weather was particularly bad on Friday evening, as Storm Hannah swept through Blackpool town Centre, leaving the volunteers cold, wet and uncomfortable…we got absolutely drenched. However, sleeping on the street for one night is nothing in comparison to what some young people go through.

“This fundraiser has been a massive eye-opener to what living on the street is really like. We got to go back to a warm and dry home in the morning, yet homeless young people don’t have that luxury. The Big Sleep Out does a fantastic job of raising awareness about homelessness and makes a huge difference to hundreds of young people’s lives.”

This year Beaverbrooks is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
