Watches of Switzerland is hosting a historical Baume & Mercier exhibition at its flagship store at 155 Regent Street to celebrate the arrival of the brand’s new limited edition Clifton 1892 Flying Tourbillon.
The three-week exhibition opened on Wednesday in the store’s Calibre Room displaying the historical models that inspired each of the six current Baume & Mercier collections as well as the original record breaking 1892 Flying Tourbillon pocket watch. The watches have never been exhibited in the UK before.
The Baume & Mercier’s Clifton 1892 Flying Tourbillon watch was unveiled earlier this year at SIHH and is limited to just 30 pieces. Watches of Switzerland 155 Regent Street will be the sole UK stockist.
The £39,000 45.5mm red gold watch drew inspiration from a keyless winding tourbillon pocket watch manufactured in 1892. The watch was presented at Kew Observatory the same year and was awarded a score of 91.9% accuracy, branding it the world’s most accurate time piece, a record it held for 10 years.
The original piece will be the central feature of the exhibition, which will also include the 1950 42mm contemporary model in rose gold which inspired the Clifton collection; the 1965 ultra-thin white gold, minimalistic and timeless model responsible for the creation of the Classima collection; the 1948 chronograph inspiring the sport-chic Capeland collection; the 1940 Art-Deco rose gold rectangular shaped model forming the modern day Hampton collection; the 1950 revolutionary model embodying a jewellery design serving as a guidance to the Linea contemporary collection; and the 1970 model embodying a modern dual shaped case inspiring the latest ladies collection by Baume & Mercier launched in September this year, Promesse.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to enter a prize draw to win a Baume & Mercier Clifton watch.
