Banneker Watches has teamed up with the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) to create a line of timepieces to raise money for good causes in Africa.
The watches are part of a new initiative launched by the DEF called Empowerment Jewelry to raise funds for areas in Africa where diamonds are mined.
Banneker Watches’ creations for DEF feature its signature use of luxury woods as well as diamonds and green crystals. The company has also signed up to the DEF’s Diamonds for Good membership, pledging to help improve living conditions for people in African diamond mining communities.
The watches will be on display at DEF’s stand at US trade show JCK and DEF will host an official launch party for the initiative on June 20.
DEF co-founder Russell Simmons said: “It is important to support and encourage the youth of Africa to make a positive change in the world. DEF Empowerment Jewelry will contribute to this vision.”
