AVI-8 pays tribute to the 1963 aircraft that took part in the Battle of Britain

AVI-8 has created a limited edition of its Hawker Hurricane model to commemorate the Battle of Britain.

The Hurricane 4046 has taken a year of meticulous research, design and production that AVI-8 says makes it more than a timepiece. “It is in part a wearable testament to the Battle itself,” the company suggests.

The 43mm diameter case is a classic vintage pilot watch shape with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and coin edged crown and hand-polished bezel.

There were 1963 aircraft recorded to have fought in the Battle of Britain, so AVI-8 has produced 1963 pieces of the limited edition. Each will be inscribed with a unique number.

On the right side of the case is the marking RF D. The RF referring to the famed Polish 303 squadron which was the highest scoring Hurricane squadron during the Battle of Britain.

The dial is a tribute to Battle of Britain aviators. The base panel has the concentric circles outline of the RAF on a three armed panel which raises the 12, 4 and 8 hour indexes. The hour and minute hands take reference from the propellers found on the Hurricane, right down to contrasting painted blade tips.

A see-through caseback displays the Miyota 8215 automatic movement that has been customised with a cutaway rotor in the shape of a Hurricane.

The Hurricane 4046 comes strapped with a double=lined leather Nato strap and is presented in AVI-8’s field box style packaging alongside an extra nylon Nato strap.
