Audemars Piguet’s Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie won the 2019 GPHG prize for Men’s Complications, so it is little wonder that the technical and artistic marvel is back this year in the form of five Grand Sonnerie Carillon Supersonnerie timepieces.
Each of the five is unique thanks to one-off grande feu enamel dials created by Anita Porchet, arguably the world’s finest enameler.
Audemars Piguet specialises in chiming mechanisms including grande sonneries, petite sonneries and minute repeaters.
Only a handful of specialised watchmakers at the manufacture are trained to assemble and adjust its grande sonnerie watches.
“The Grande Sonnerie is the acme of chiming watches. Like an orchestra, the synchronization of components has to be perfect to guarantee the automatic chiming of the hours and quarters. It took us four years to meet the challenge of combining this traditional mechanism with our Supersonnerie technology, which we endowed with the three gongs function,” says Lucas Raggi, Audemars Piguet development director.
For three of the five Codes, Ms Porchet decorated blue enamel dials with antique gold spangles while the remaining two pieces are blank canvases so that clients can work with Ms Porchet’s atelier to create completely personalized watches.
The 41mm white gold Code 11.59 by Audemars Piguet Grande Sonnerie Carillon Supersonnerie houses a new hand-wound movement, calibre 2956, which unites the traditional grande sonnerie complication with patented Supersonnerie technology introduced by the manufacture in 2015 in the Royal Oak Concept collection.
