Audemars Piguet doubles-down with 10 fresh Code 11.59 models

Controversial Code split opinion when it was unveiled last year. A second generation could sway some of the collection’s doubters.

It is fair to say that reaction to the first generation of Code 11.59 watches, revealed at SIHH in January, 2019, was mixed.

But Audemars Piguet is determined to become far more than just a Royal Oak brand, and it needs something more dressy.

A second collection drops this week, with five new three-handers with date, and five automatic chronographs.

The focus is on sunburst lacquered dials in deep colors including blue, burgundy purple and two shades of gray.

They retain the original architecture of an octagonal middle case, a round extra-thin bezel that opens up the dial, and precise polishing and brushing of the steel or gold.

This year’s colors and the wearable 41mm size of the watches make them suitable for both men and women, Audemars Piguet says.

They are worn on hand-stitched alligator straps matching each dial’s color.

2020 Code 11.59 models use the same movements that AP created for the initial 2019 collection.

Three handers use the in house calibre 4302, an automatic movement with second and instant-jump date indication. They are on sale from next week for £26,200.

Chronographs are powered by calibre 4401, an integrated chronograph with column wheel and flyback function that enables to restart the chronograph without stopping and resetting it first.

They are priced at £41,300.
