Audemars Piguet ditches seconds hand for Millenary Philosophique ladies watches

The watches, AP says, change the relationship between the watch wearer and the passage of time.

Audemars Piguet has ditched the seconds hand on a fresh range of women’s watches named Millenary Philosophique.

The watches, AP says, change the relationship between the watch wearer and the passage of time. “In defiance of the rush and frenzy of today’s world, the Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique puts time on women’s side, its single hand defying contemporary conventions of time measurement,” the company adds.

Jasmine Audemars, chairwoman of the board of directors at Audemars Piguet, believes the radical concept, best known today as a Meistersinger idea but actually originating from 17th century pocket watches, will encourage women to slow down.

“At Audemars Piguet, we have always charted our own course, following our firm convictions and starting our independent trends, even during times of crisis. We continue today with our new Millenary Philosophique. This watch takes a break from the rushing minutes of our world and invites you to set your own tempo,” she says.

The watch houses an automatic calibre 3140 movement that ticks the hand around the dial in an elliptical trajectory to follow the curve of the case.

An hour wheel directly corresponds with a transparent disc on the dial on which the single hand is mounted.

It comes in an 18ct white or rose gold 39.5 x 35.4mm case with a crystal display back.

There are blue and brown dials with a hammered effect with matching colored leather straps.
