Astron-omical week for Djokovic and Seiko

Seiko scooped one of the most prestigious photo opportunities in the sporting calendar when brand ambassador Novak Djokovic won the Wimbledon men’s singles trophy at the weekend.

The Serb tennis sensation lifted his second Wimbledon men’s singles title wearing the new limited edition Seiko Astron GPS watch.

Naoto Hirooka, Seiko UK’s managing director, said: “Many congratulations to Novak Djokovic on his win at Wimbledon. We are delighted for him and his team and are very proud to be his watch partner. Even before Wimbledon, 2014 had been a great year for Novak with wins in Indian Wells, Miami and Rome, but now a good year has become a great year and there are still several tournaments to play. We wish Novak every success in the USA later in the summer. Will we see his Seiko Astron GPS Solar on his wrist at another victory ceremony? Let’s hope so.”

The Wimbledon title marked Seiko’s second UK victory in a week as the brand had earlier taken the award for Best Watch Brand at the 2014 UK Watch and Jewellery Awards.

Hirooka continued: "We are honoured and delighted to receive this award. Reading the judges’ citation, it is very clear that our Astron GPS Solar collection was a major factor in the decision to grant the award to Seiko, and that is very pleasing. Even so soon after its launch, Astron is already making an enormously positive contribution to our business, to our brand and to the industry in general.”
