Every watchmaker is influenced by its environment, but Japanese artisans take this philosophy to a different level, as we see in the exquisite creations of Grand Seiko.
Minase is an independent watchmaker making around 500 watches per year from its workshops in Akita, Japan, and is coming to London in November to take part in WATCHPRO Salon.
The company’s stated aim is to make “unique, beautiful and highly qualitative hand-made watches that embody the values, traditions and typical crafts of Japan”.
It has built up its horological and creative expertise over 15 years, having been founded in 2007 with a plan to hire people from the Akita region and train them following the Japanese principle of Monozukuri, which means learning by doing something again and again.
“A more accurate definition [of Monozukuri] would be manufacturing or making things by hand. It stands for technological excellence, know-how and spirit of Japan’s manufacturing practices. More than simple words, Monozukuri is a philosophy: to show a sincere attitude towards production, pride at the job, skill and dedication. It is the continuous research for innovation, improvement and perfection,” Minase says.
Subscribing to the Swiss model of établissage, Minase procure high quality Swiss movements and combine them with its own cases, dials and bracelets, delivering extraordinary quality and notable value.
Prices start at CHF 3,350 and go up to CHF 13,850 for its Masterpiece watches.
