Artificial intelligence used to bust open the supply of fake Rolex watches

Specially-developed software allows users to scan images of select images on watches with the goal of flagging counterfeits

SaaS provider Watch Certification Services of America (Watch CSA) has launched an artificial intelligence-powered app Watch Intel AI, designed to identify fake Swiss timepieces.

Watch CSA has offered a similar web-based service since 2009, authenticating pre-owned luxury Swiss watches.

Its platform has minimised the risks of buying brands such as Audemars Piguet, Breitling, Cartier, Hublot, Patek Philippe, Panerai, Omega and Rolex.

Watch Intel AI is its new progressive web application, allowing users to scan images of select areas on watches with the goal of flagging counterfeits.

The software verifies watches against its Counterfeit Busters database of over 145,000 reported fake and stolen watches.

The PWA provider has 1100 trade users and has completed 80,000 watch authentications.

It aims to reduce the risk for buyers as well as pawnbrokers.
