Armed gang attacks flagship 155 Regent Street Watches of Switzerland

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad are appealing for information following an armed robbery of the flagship Watches of Switzerland at 155 Regent Street on Sunday, March 18.

Police were called to the iconic watch showroom at around 2pm, where six suspects on three mopeds had attacked the store, which is open on Sundays.

The Met says that the gang used sledgehammers to smash their way through the front door then smashed their way through the glass display cabinets and stole a quantity of high value Rolex watches.

The gang fled the scene on mopeds in the direction of Piccadilly Circus to the South of 155 Regent Street before the police arrived.

No one was injured in the course of the robbery, but one person was treated for shock.

A number of weapons used in the attack including sledgehammers and knives were recovered from outside the store. An image on social media showed what appeared to be a Samurai sword on the ground behind a police cordon.

The Metropolitan Police said on Monday that no arrests have been made.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact via Twitter @MetCC quoting CAD 3838/18March.

Aurum Holdings has confirmed to WatchPro that it has supplied the serial data of all stolen watches directly to Rolex and the Safer Gems watch databases so that they can be checked by anybody in the trade.

  1. As banks are more or less cashless today and more stores also move in this direction. I am afraid this is not the last type of robbery we will see, not only in the UK but the rest of the world. Jewellery and expensive watches are more or less the only thing robbers can get their hands on now a days. It would be nice if the swiss watch industry made some sort of database where all watches could be registered, so that it would serve no point to steal them.
