Apple boss Tim Cook says the soon-to-be-released Apple Watch will combat the ‘new cancer’ of inactive lifestyles by encouraging wearers to go for a walk every hour.
Cook spoke at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco earlier this week, stating that the hourly vibration reminder from the watch had been well received by Apple employees testing the watch.
“We have a lot of people using the Apple Watch at Apple, and ten minutes before the hour, suddenly they all get up and move. It took a little to get used to, but it’s great.”
The health monitoring data, such as heart rate, gathered by Apple’s long-awaited smartwatch will be fed back to a thethered iPhone for further analysis.
Cook also revealed that Apple will not be collecting any data from users of its Apple Pay service, when answering a question about privacy concerns. Apple Pay will be a feature of the Apple Watch.
“We believe customers have a right to privacy, and the vast majority of customers don’t want people knowing everything about them. People are unknowingly sharing things with others, and info can be pieced together. Over time people will realize this more and demand privacy.”
