Apple expands IP protection for iWatch launch

Digital giant Apple is continuing work on its long rumoured iWatch project by changing the status of its trademarks around the world.

Apple seems undaunted by being beaten to the smartwatch punch by many manufacturers including Google and Samsung and has been updating its trademarks in several international territories to include Class 14 protection.

According to the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office, Class 14 protection extends to ‘Precious metals and their alloys; jewellery, costume jewellery, precious stones; horological and chronometric instruments, clocks and watches.’

MacRumours reports that between December last year and March this year Apple has added Class 14 protection in Ecuador, Mexico, Norway and the UK. Apple began protecting the intellectual property of its wearable project last June by trademarking the iWatch name in Russia, Japan, Taiwan and Mexico.
