Apollo astronaut Omega goes on sale at Bonhams

A rare gold Omega wristwatch, one of 30 given to Apollo astronauts working on the lunar landings in 1969, is coming up for sale at Bonhams in New York next week.

The Speedmaster Professional Chronograph was given to Alan Bean, who served alongside commander Pete Conrad as the lunar module pilot for the Apollo 12 mission, the second mission to put a man on the moon.

The Omega Speedmaster Apollo XI model was created in the autumn of 1969 to commemorate Apollo 12’s successful moon landing on July 20 of the same year.

The watch, which has an estimate of $40,000-$60,000, is on sale as part of a Space History auction on April 21 at Bonhams’ Madison Avenue showroom. Bids are also being accepted online.
