Antiquorum to auction unique IWC for cinema grant

Antiquorum will auction off a unique watch from IWC to benefit young film-making talent through a New York film institute.

The Pilot’s Watch Spitfire Chronograph Edition “Tribeca Film Festival 2014” (Ref. IW387811) is the only example of its kind and will be sold as part of a lot (lot 268) including VIP access to the Tribeca Film Festival, an invitation to the ‘For the Love of Cinema’ private dinner hosted by IWC Schaffhausen and luxury hotel accommodation at Antiquorum’s New York auction on Madison Avenue on April 9.

IWC is the Tribeca Film Festival’s official festival time partner for a second year and for the second year all proceeds of the sale of a unique IWC watch will benefit the Tribeca Film Institute’s IWC Filmmaker Award, a grant designed to support the next generation of filmmakers.

Georges Kern, IWC chief executive officer, said: “I am thrilled to continue the partnership with Tribeca Film Festival, and to help cultivate the bright young talent of the film industry with IWC’s contribution to Tribeca Film Institute. This is a cause that is closely aligned with IWC’s long-standing tradition of supporting the art of cinema, by aiding the next generation of filmmakers in pursuing their craft to the fullest potential. Storytelling is an important element deeply embedded in everything that we do, as is excellence in technical achievement, both of which are also vital to great filmmaking.”

The watch is a re-imagined version of a modern classic and houses the automatic, IWC-manufactured 89365 calibre, featuring a 68-hour power reserve. An 18ct gold case, slate-coloured dial and Bordeaux sub-dials completes the unique look.

Last year’s beneficiary, documentary maker Jeff Malmberg said: “Being selected as the winner of the IWC Filmmaker Award last year was truly an honor, to receive such support through the grant allowed me to continue to work my project completely focused without the worry of traditional film funding.”
