Antiquorum’s first auction in August took place in Hong Kong this week, bringing in more than HKD$13 million (£1m), with a number of the pieces selling for more than five times their original estimated price.
Amongst the 211 timepieces were models from Patek Phillipe and Jaegar Le Coultre and Omega.
The top lot of the day-long sale was the Jaegar LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2 which sold to a European collector for HKD $1,800,000 (£146,556) after a bidding war between buyers on the auction room floor and the telephone.
The sale was focused on rare tourbillions from both modern watch and clock making companies.
Other high sellers included an 18ct white gold Patek Phillipe tourbillion which went under the gavel for HKD $487,500 (£39,690) and an Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon which sold for HKD $300,000 (£24,425).
Antiquorum’s president and chief executive Evan Zimmermann said: “With our first auction held in August in Hong Kong, we are excited to see that collectors’ interest in exceptional timepieces continues to be strong even during the summer holidays.”
The auction house’s next sale, featuring vintage and contemporary Patek Phillipe watches, will take place in Hong Kong on October 19th.
