America’s Bob’s Watches holds online auction for 12 rare Rolexes with no buyer’s premium

2018 GMT Master II and “Paul Newman” Daytona reference 6239 with box and papers ensures competition from bidders will be fierce.

Bob’s Watches is holding its first ever online auction, with 12 rare and desirable Rolex timepieces up for grabs including this year’s grail watch, a 2018 Rolex GMT Master II with Pepsi bezel that has an opening bid price of just $5000. The same watch is currently being advertised on platforms like Chrono24 for around $19,000.

The Bob’s Watch auction runs online from September 5 to 12.

“Rolex is on fire — new and old. Some new sport models like the Daytona 116500 are practically impossible to buy at retail, and vintage values seem to be increasing daily,” says Paul Altieri, CEO of Bob’s Watches.

Every watch is sold in its original box with papers, and the winning bidder will pay zero buyer’s premium. Bob’s Watches will make a margin because, unlike auction houses, it has already bought all the watches that are up for sale.

Auction houses typically charge buyer’s premiums of 20-25%, so the saving could be significant if bidders don’t price-in the discount.

“The auction format is our way of allowing customers to get into the Rolex of their dreams with no buyers commission added to the purchase. What you bid is what you pay. It’s a much more democratic way of offering these exotic, pre-owned timepieces,” suggests Mr Altieri.

Bob’s also has every watch checked, authenticated and serviced. They are sold with Bob’s one year service guarantee and lifetime authenticity guarantee. The business is one of the largest and respected pre-owned Rolex dealers in the United States.

As well as the eye-catching GMT Master, the auction also has an exceptional Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona reference 6239, one of only a few known with original box and papers. It has a starting price of $175,000.

There is also a brand new steel Daytona with white dial (116500LN) and brand new steel GMT-Master with “Pepsi” bezel (126710BLRO), both offered with starting bids of $5,000.

Other highlights including a rare Milgauss reference 1019 with “CERN” dial, a beautiful Submariner reference 5513, and a Daytona reference 116520 presented to a winning driver of the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
