Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers attracts first 35 member firms in 8 weeks

Trade body announces members-only Open Dial event with Roger W. Smith OBE on January 27th.

It has been just two months since renowned British watchmaker Roger W. Smith OBE and Christopher Ward founder Mike France launched the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers with a mission to promote watchmaking in the UK, and already 35 British firms have signed up.

Vertex, AnOrdain, Geckota, Bamford and Pinion are among the early members.

The Alliance has commissioned KPMG to survey British watch and clock makers and establish the size, scope and direction for the sector. The Bellwether report is due to be published in the first quarter of 2021.

In addition, the date for a first virtual event from the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers has been set and can be announced today. An Open Dial with Roger W. Smith OBE will take place at 5pm GMT on January 27th.

A member-only event, the Open Dial will give attendees an in-depth behind the scenes look at Roger W. Smith’s studio, and insight into Roger W. Smith’s working methods.

“It’s been incredible to see the Alliance membership grow as quickly as it has and so, as a thank you, we wanted to give our members a truly special event. Attendees will get the chance to see watchmaking history with a tour of our private George Daniels workshop, followed by an access-all-areas tour of my current studio, and also a hint of the future for mechanical watchmaking with my latest developments,” Mr Smith says.

Registration the event is now open for Members HERE. Non-members wishing to attend should visit www.britishwatchmakers.com for details on how to join the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers.
