Lange & Söhne has created its most complicated watch to date with the launch of its Grand Complication.
Production will be limited to just six watches this year, the company revealed at SIHH.
The Grand Complication houses the L1902 calibre, which delivers a chiming mechanism with grand and small strike (grande and petit sonnerie), minute repeater, split-seconds chronograph with minute counter and jumping seconds a well as a perpetual calendar with moonphase display.
The grande sonnerie is described as one of the most challenging of all complications in watch making. It imposes extreme requirements on the perfect interaction of intricate mechanisms crafted from materials of the highest quality by exceptionally talented and experienced watchmakers.
The chronograph of the Grand Complication is a monopusher with a rattrapante function and jumping seconds, which makes it possible to freeze stopped times to fifths of a second.
The perpetual calendar mechanism is capable of dealing with leap years, and will not need adjusting by a single day until the year 2100.
The face is a multi-part white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, a railway-track minute scale, and the four characteristic, symmetrically arranged subsidiary dials.
