88 Rue du Rhone celebrates BAFTA weekend

88 Rue du Rhone is celebrating its second year as the official timing partner of BAFTA this weekend with a series of projections on the academy’s headquarters on London’s Piccadilly.

The projection of 100 portraits of some of the world’s most famous film stars began on Friday night to mark the start of BAFTA weekend, with the awards taking place on Sunday night.

All of the film stars chosen for the projections have also been nominated for BAFTA Awards since its inception in 1954. The projections will continue until Sunday night.

Internationally renowned photographer Andy Gotts has spent the last two years travelling the globe to capture portraits of stars including Lauren Bacall, Jeff Bridges, Daniel Day-Lewis, Al Pacino, John Hurt, Sidney Poitier and Tilda Swinton.

An exhibition of the images, Behind the Mask, ran at Somerset House in London throughout January and February as part of a BAFTA Future Archive collaboration.

Pierre Bernheim, CEO of 88 Rue du Rhone, said: “Film and philanthropy is very much part of our brand philosophy and we want to be perceived as being innovative and creative in our thinking. This type of brand personality is how 88 Rue du Rhone was born. The partnership with BAFTA allows us to showcase all these credentials on an international level and we are delighted with the results of the campaign for 2014”

This is the second time that Swiss watch brand 88 Rue du Rhone has commissioned a piece of artwork to showcase its partnership with BAFTA. Last year the brand commissioned a piece of artwork from photographer Kevin Vicic-Shepherd that unveiled the inner workings of 195 Piccadilly, showcasing every room within its Piccadilly headquarters. The artwork featured many well-known personalities from the film industry including; JK Rowling, Stephen Fry and Amanda Berry.

The Behind the Mask exhibition is currently showing at BAFTA, at 195 Piccadilly, London, W1 until April 2014.
