3D printing allows startup to claim its watches are built in the USA

US-based startup watchmaker Vortic Watches launched its first collection two years ago following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Now the brand is back on the crowdfunding campaign, asking investors to back a second collection.

The unique proposition from Vortic is to create bespoke timepieces that combine elements of vintage American pocket watches with modern 3D printed components to create modern classics.

The Colorado company’s second collection, known as the Journeyman Series, is a line of manual wind and automatic 3D printed titanium watches housing an Eterna Caliber 39 movement.

With the exception of the movement, the company claims that the watches are almost entirely manufactured in the USA.

Its original crowdfunding target of $50,000 has already been exceeded, with the total today standing at $58,000.
