Breguet pocket watch

Watch auction featuring premium Breguet piece could fetch £12m

An exceptional Breguet pocket watch formerly owned by Charles-Louis Havas, founder of news wire Agence France-Presse (AFP), is the start lot at Christie’s Rare Watches auction, which takes place on 16 May 2016 at the Four Season Hotel des Bergues in Geneva.

The Breguet pocket watch is among 276 lots that are expected to sell for a total of up to CHF 16 million (£11.9m).

Pieces from several important private collections will go under the hammer along with classics including a selection of complicated Patek Philippe watches made between the 1940’s and 2012, an important selection of Rolex sports watches as well as several important timepieces signed Breguet.

“We are delighted to present our Spring auction which includes 276 carefully selected high quality timepieces manufactured between the 18th century and the 21th century by the world’s foremost watchmakers. The sale offers a diversified range of watches often appearing for the first time in public and sourced from distinguished private collections,” said Thomas Perazzi, head of department and main watch auctioneer.
