WOTY2013: Luminox Recon NAV SPC

In November WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2013, made up of 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Highly commended for the WatchPro Sports Watch of the Year 2013 was the Luminox Recon NAV SPC.

American Swiss-made watch brand Luminox introduced the Recon NAV SPC, which simply put, is a very cool watch.

Designed in collaboration with a former Swiss Army Military Security NCO to support reconnaissance missions, the 46mm case “navigation specialist” model incorporates an easy-to-read walking speed tachymeter on its dial calibrated in miles per hour, allowing the wearer to measure just how fast they are walking.

Additionally, three common map scales can be used to measure distances on maps without the need for calculations.

The watch strap also features an inch/cm measurement and comparison chart and holds a removable compass.

And if that wasn’t enough for functionality, this watch measures a second time zone and comes in a military style MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) unit that doubles as a sunglasses case. An orienteer’s dream.
