WOTY: Mühle-Glashütte Terranaut I Trail

Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Highly commended for WatchPro Rising Star of the Year 2012 was the Muhle-Glashutte Terranaut I Trail.

Muhle-Glashutte dubs its Terranaut I Trail an “energy-charged instrument watch with a down-to-earth design”. Indeed, its sand coloured details, inspired by pilot’s watches, and all black PVD steel case makes for a watch that, while less ostentatious than others, has plenty of functions to offer.

This watch has a chronograph movement with the brand’s woodpecker neck regulation, the Glashütte three-quarter plate and a 48-hour power reserve. Its 44mm case is complemented by a black Russian leather strap that closes with a butterfly clasp.

The brand itself is no new player, however, having manufactured high-quality ships’ timepieces and marine chronometers for many years; something it still makes today. Its mechanical wristwatches are a growing focus, however, and the brand remains working from its manufactory in Glashütte where it is overseen by the fifth generation of the Mühle family.
