WOTY 2013: Greubel Forsey Art Piece 1

From the moment we first heard about this watch pre-SIHH we were hooked.

Not only does the Greubel Forsey Art Piece 1 house a Greubel Forsey 30 degree double-tourbillon, but look closer – a lot closer – and on peering into the crown you will be met with a nautical microworld in the form of a miniscule ship created by English nano sculptor Willard Wigan, who hails from Birmingham.

Wigan’s tiny works of art, which he usually displays inside the eyes of needles, can only be viewed through microscopes but this has been overcome in the Art Piece 1 thanks to a infinitesimal creation of Greubel Forsey’s own – a tiny microscope set into the case band that offers 23x magnification and, as such, an excellent view of Wigan’s creation.
