WatchPro recently announced its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Now we are showcasing a watch a day that made the cut in 2012. This smart black Oris timepiece brings together a range of materials including a special strap coating akin to that used on race car tyres. It made our list of highly commended Sports watches

Highly Commended Sports Watch of the Year – Oris Artix GT Chronograph

Oris has made motorsport-inspired watches for some time but its Artix GT Chronograph is a mixed material timepiece that we love for its sharp, modern take on classic dashboard displays.

For example, its sub-dials include a small seconds counter designed to mimic an RPM counter on a racing car’s dash. The 44mm stainless steel case houses an automatic mechanical ETA calibre 7750 movement, while the matte black dial is complement by the sheen of the black ceramic bi-rotational bezel.

The black rubber strap also continues the nod to all things motorsport, as it looks like a tyre and is made with a special good-grip coating. Against a palette of all black, its polished nickel hands and Superluminova accents give a high-gloss finish.
