WOTY 2012: Mechanical – MontBlanc TwinFly Greytech

Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Now we are showcasing a watch a day that made the cut in 2012. Today we’re focused on a watch that makes us wish we were in Back to the Future – a slick, all-grey timepiece from MontBlanc.

Highly Commended Mechanical Watch of the Year – Montblanc TimeWalker TwinFly Chronograph GreyTech

Grey may not be the most obvious choice for a luxury brand such as MontBlanc but when used to this effect the result is striking.

The watch is a follow-up to 2011’s TimeWalker TwinFly but this all-grey version was designed in reaction to the array of colourful screens, billboards, shop windows and magazine covers that surround us in daily life.

The case is crafted in pearl-blasted titanium and houses the brand’s chronograph Calibre MB LL100, assembled in Le Locle, its special feature being its double barrel, which gives this movement a power reserve of 72 hours.

When its flyback function is triggered its two indicators race back to their starting position and instantly restart measuring another interval, beautifully showing how the TwinFly got its name.
