WOTY 2012: Mechanical – Mondaine Vintage

Earlier this year WatchPro unveiled its Watches of the Year 2012 – the 10 winning timepieces and 90 highly commended watches that we felt boasted commercial appeal, innovation and had wowed consumers and retailers alike over the past 12 months.

Now we are showcasing a watch a day that made the cut in 2012 and today take a closer look at this highly commended Mondaine timepiece – the brand’s first foray into mechanical watches, launched this year.

Highly Commended Mechanical Watch of the Year – Mondaine Vintage

Mondaine’s Swiss Railway clock-inspired watches have become a mainstay for many retailers in the UK, with the watches found on the wrists of everyone from young designers to grandfathers.

While the brand has typically used quartz movements – ideal for keeping prices and availability commercial – Mondaine has finally moved into the realm of the mechanical wristwatch. Its new Vintage wristwatch has a hand-wound ETA 2801-2 movement, visible through its open caseback, and is limited to just 400 timepieces.

It is dubbed the Vintage due to its mechanical movement, while its actual styling is very sleek and minimal – the watch has a wearable 41mm case with a depth of just 8mm. A great new offer from a smart brand and potentially the first of several more Mondaine mechanicals.
