WINNER & HEARST PICK: Sports Activity Watches of the Year, Tudor Heritage Black Bay Bronze

Far from the slightly deflated feeling that Olympic athletes get when receiving bronze on the podium, this year saw the oft-forgotten metal put on a pedestal.

The biggest Swiss watch houses out there seemed to all be incorporating bronze into their headline launches at Baselworld, but very few did it better than Tudor.

This 43 mm divers’ watch is fitted with a mechanical movement developed and produced in-house by the brand.

It features the particularly prominent winding crown from the famous 7924 reference of 1958, aka “Big Crown”, while its characteristic angular hands, known as “snowflake”, were borrowed from Tudor watches used by the French National Navy in the 1970s.

As well as the gorgeous colour of the dial and bezel, possibly the stars of the show here are the two strap options: one being the beige and brown woven jacquard strap and the other a wonderful aged brown leather strap.

Both are out of the top drawer and take this timepiece from good to great in our eyes.
