Wearable Tech Show greets record number of visitors

The Wearable Technology Show greeted record numbers of visitors at London’s ExCeL last month.

Nearly 5,000 people attended the third annual edition of the world’s biggest wearable technology event.

Attendance shot up by 26% on last year, which saw 3,900 visitors through the doors while the first event welcomed 2,200 people.

138 companies exhibited at last month’s show including Sony, Samsung, Jaguar Land Rover, Epson and Energenie.

The expo featured six areas dedicated to Innovation, Lifestyle, Connected Home, AR/VR, Healthcare and Technology, as well as the Launchpad and the Swiss and Quebec Pavilions, which were new for 2016.

Around 50 products were launched to the UK trade and media for the very first time, including a new golf watch from TomTom and applications for sports performance, health and wellbeing, lifestyle and enterprise. BBC Click, BBC News, BBC World, The Gadget Show, Mary Portas, Dragon’s Den, The Guardian, Stuff, T3 and Wired were among the media outlets covering the show this year.

Running alongside the expo was a nine-track conference featuring more than 150 speakers, including Adidas, Microsoft, Team Sky, TomTom, Fitbit, Walt Disney Research, British Gas, Barclaycard and Glaxo Smith Kline.

John Weir, Wearable Technology Show chief operating officer, said: “We have more than doubled our visitor numbers in two years and more than trebled our exhibitor numbers and we plan to return in 2017 bigger and better with an even richer offering for exhibitors and visitors. In the meantime, there’s the small matter of organising the second Wearable Technology Show USA, which will return on 4-5 October in Santa Clara, California.”

The show will return to ExCeL between March 7-8 next year.
