WatchPro at SIHH: Montblanc

Montblanc’s SIHH presentation might not have been able to quite live up to its barnstorming showing last year, but that doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a multitude of tempting watches at all price points.

Montblanc’s focus in 2016 is its newly relaunched  4810 collection, which is inspired-by the golden age of travel in the early 20th Century and references the height of the summit of Mont Blanc in metres. The collection’s visual signature is the use of Montblanc’s ‘exploding star’ guilloche pattern on the dial and applied rose gold Roman numeral hour markers.

In fact the new 4810 variation of last year’s Orbis Terrarum, might well have been WatchPro’s favourite watch of the entire show. There was absolutely nothing with the original Orbis, quite the opposite it garnered rave reviews; so praise must be heaped on Montblanc’s designers for improving it anyway. By replacing the white, day-side of the AM/PM disc with a colourful climate scale and introducing orange, yellow and green hues, the 4810 Orbis has emerged a unique, intriguing and exciting timepiece. It also sits proudly on the wrist looking far, far more expensive than its 5,890 Euro price tag suggests.

Excitement elsewhere included Twincounter Date and Annual Calendar additions to the Heritage Chronométrie collection as well as limited 110 Years editions of the 4810 TwinFly Chronograph and a 53mm pocket watch version of the new Orbis.
