Watch brand cashes in on success of cult arcade game edition

RJ-Romain Jerome is cashing on its biggest success to date by relaunching its classic Space Invaders watch.

The company unveiled its first twist on the legendary arcade game six years ago and it went onto become a huge hit, leading the brand to follow it up by rolling out the ‘Games collection’.

The collection originally consisted of two models, each limited to 78 pieces – echoing the game’s release year – and depicting its famous scene illustrated in the dial, with coloured or white SuperLumiNova pixelated figures.

The new Space Invaders Pop line, unveiled for the first time this week, consists of two models that are again limited to 78 pieces. The models are equipped with a Swiss Made mechanical self-winding movement and are available in either a 46mm titanium case or a 40mm steel case. The pair will be released simultaneously for the first time.

The Moon Invader case features four functional ball-and-socket joints, cut like the pivoting feet of the lunar landing modules of the American lunar missions. These components, mounted on axles and anchored to the case, hold the lugs of the rubber straps and enable the watch to adjust to all kinds of wrist sizes.

A pixelated 3D dial with bead-blasted and satin-brushed levels reveals the iconic Space Invaders characters enhanced with stronger and brighter colours. The characters, in the form of a laser cannon and aliens, have been machined one by one then filled by hand with cold enamel in green, white, blue, purple, orange and yellow.

The case back, meanwhile, beholds a Space Invaders medallion standing in the middle of the stellar pattern extending to the back of the rubber strap. Additionally, the watch box has been designed to like an arcade controller.
