An armed moped gang has attacked Watches of Switzerland on Oxford Street just three weeks after the Aurum Holdings-owned business’s flagship store at 155 Regent Street, London, was raided.

Video captured on a smartphone from a passerby shows six people smashing their way into the store using mopeds.

Two of the men rush inside, leaving four others outside. One of them appears to be brandishing a machete to keep the public away.

The raid captured on video takes around two minutes. At one point it appears that robbers are trapped inside the shop before the front door is forced open again and they escape with a black bag.

The video maker then moved inside the Watches of Switzerland to show smashed glass cabinets of what look like Rolex watches with a large number missing.

The shop is filled with smoke, presumably from a security device.

There are sledge hammers on the floor.

The Metropolitan Police has said: “Police were called to a commercial property in Oxford Street at 0951hrs on Saturday, 7 April to reports of a robbery in progress.

“At this early stage it is believed that a number of persons on mopeds, possibly armed with metal bars, forced entry to the door of the venue and may have stolen stock from within.

“No persons are thought to have been injured during the incident. Officers remain at the venue and a crime scene is in place.”

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has footage of the incident taking place is asked to call Westminster Police on 101 quoting reference CAD2484/7APR.
