Vanessa Mae named latest Omega ambassador

Omega has named renowned violinist Vanessa Mae Vanakorn as its latest ambassador, as she prepares for a new direction representing Thailand in downhill skiing at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Vanessa Mae was welcome to the line-up of brand ambassadors by the Sochi 2014 Games organising committee’s vice president Igor Stolyarov at the Omega House in London last Friday.

She said: “Sporty, dependable, classy: Those are the words I associate with my Omega. I’m delighted and honoured that Omega, who plays such an important and historical role in the Olympics, embraced my originality, my integrity and my challenge."

She was presented with a good luck gift – a Omega diamond-set Seamaster – by Stolyarov. Despite being a globally successful musician having launched into the world’s conscious at the age of 13, Mae has decided to devote herself to her passion for downhill skiing.

Omega president Stephen Urquhart said that as the brand’s latest ambassador he looks forward to seeing Mae take part in the Winter Games.

"Vanessa Mae is a remarkable musician who has had an incredible concert career. By choosing this new path she demonstrates that she has great courage, incredible talent and a sense of adventure we are very much looking forward to this partnership.

“All of us at Omega are particularly excited about the fact that the next edition of the Olympic Winter Games is going to be contested in Sochi. We’ve already enjoyed extensive contact with the organizing committee there and know that this Black Sea resort town is going to distinguish itself with an extraordinary Olympic Winter Games."
