Vacheron Constantin’s Chinese exhibition scoops national award

An exhibition of watchmaking culture staged by Vacheron Constantin in China has scooped a national award.

The Origin of Swiss Watchmaking Culture exhibition won the Best Co-operation Award – International, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Category at the 13th National Awards of Top 10 Museum Exhibitions, in Inner Mongolia.

The exhibition, staged at Beijing’s Capital Museum of China between April and August last year, was one of 24 shortlisted candidates for the category and was organised in co-operation with the Museum of Art & History, Geneva, and Vacheron Constantin.

The exhibition showcased about 350 items, including antique clocks, pocket watches, wristwatches, as well as watchmaking tools and equipment.

Organisers reconstructed a 18th Century Genevan ‘cabinotiers’ workshop, from a painting by Christophe François von Ziegler. The exhibition attracted an impressive average of over 5,000 visitors per day and over 500,000 visitors in total.
