Tourbillon son of time timepiece edit

TW Steel creates one-off tourbillon timepiece

Dutch watchmaker TW Steel, the brand synonymous with big watches, has partnered with custom motorbike builders Numbnut Motorcyles to produce a one-off timepiece with a Swiss made tourbillon movement.

The unique watch is called the Son of Time and is a collaborative effort between TW Steel’s chief designer Ton Cobelens and motorcycle builder Roderick Seibert of Numbnut Motorcycles.

The fully automatic, bi-directional timepiece has 29 jewels and a three-day power reserve, with a 3HZ (21’ 600 A/H) frequency and a cage speed of one revolution per minute. Finishing touches include the use of ostrich leather to hand-craft the watch strap.

“This was such an enjoyable timepiece to create,” commented Ton Cobelens. “At TW Steel we build every watch to make a powerful statement and the Son of Time is no exception. Working with Roderick has been really inspiring. I knew right from the beginning we had to use a mechanical tourbillon movement.”

Seibert is equally proud of the partnership: “I’m really impressed with the result of Ton’s creation. As a custom builder I’m always looking for new influences and creative input so to work with a timepiece designer has been a real change. TW Steel’s attitude and innovation is really cool and not so different from our approach.”

TW Steel CEO Jordy Cobelens spoke of his own personal enthusiasm for the collaboration. “I’m really excited about this project,” he said. “From the first day we started to design and build timepieces ten years ago to this present day, we’ve always pushed to be different. The feedback on this timepiece has been so positive that we took inspiration from the design to create a brand new range, the Maverick Collection. Not everyone can have the Son of Time but now there’s a whole new TW Steel collection that represents the style, attitude and freedom of this project.”

The one-off Son of Time watch by TW Steel will be priced at 100,000 Euros.
