Timex enables tap and go payments for its latest Fairfield fashion watches

Timex has introduced a leather strap for its Fairfield watch collection that contains a contactless chip for making tap and go debit card payments.

The strap’s technology is provided by bPay, a contactless payment system created by Barclaycard that enables people to make instant payments of up to £30 at almost half a million point of sale locations across the UK.

Wearers can link to their bank accounts, track their spending, top up their balance, and take control of their contactless payments using the dedicated bPay app or website.

Timex bpay fairfield“We are thrilled to be launching our newest innovation in wearable technology and partnering with bPay,” said Duncan Harris, Timex UK sales & marketing director.

“The functionality of the Fairfield Contactless watch gives our consumer the option of hands free payment, whilst retaining the timeless character of this classic chronograph watch. We are excited at the possibilities this technology offers consumers in payment solutions and will continue to work with our partners in bringing this to more of our collection.”

Tami Hargreaves, director of innovation and partnerships at Barclaycard Mobile Payments adds: “bPay is designed to meet the needs of time-pressed shoppers who are increasingly looking for easy and convenient ways to pay for everyday goods and services. September marks the 10th anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments to the UK and our partnership with Timex represents another exciting way touch and go technology can be simply and stylishly integrated into fashion and accessories.”

The Fairfield Contactless is offered with brown or black leather straps, priced at £159.
