Thomas Mercer releases new chronometer sketch

By Craig Heatly

After announcing the launch of the Andrew Winch designed marine chronometer in August, Thomas Mercer has unveiled sketches of the model that will be available in September.

Andrew Winch, who normally specialise in the design of yachts, aviation and architecture, stated at the beginning of August how excited he was to be working with the watch brand to create the timepiece.

April saw the release of the TM0801, which was the first mechanism produced since the re-launch of the marine brand. The brand new design features a TM0801 mechanism, an eight day power reserve, chain and fuse and spring detente escapement and will be mounted on gimballed suspension.

Winch, creative director of Andrew Winch Designs, said: “It is an honour to be creating the Thomas Mercer Chronometer. Marine clocks have been the key technology for marine navigation and Thomas Mercer leads the field with their exquisite timepieces. I hope that they will grace many yachtsmen’s studies in the future.”
