TAG Heuer marks NISMO Le Mans finish with watch

TAG Heuer had a strong presence at the legendary 24hr motorsport race Le Mans at the weekend and unveiled a new special edition watch to celebrate.

The Swiss watch brand was represented on the track by Team Nissan NISMO’s LMP1 hybrid race car, for which it serves as official timekeeper and watch; on the wrist of actor-turned-racing driver Patrick Dempsey and by two ‘friends’ of the brand, Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung and Indian driver Karun Chandhock, both competing in the LMP2 class.

The technologically advanced NISMO LMP1 completed the Le Mans 24hrs race, a major feat in itself, with three cars and nine drivers, despite being the only car to feature hybrid front wheel drive.

The watch that TAG Heuer revealed to celebrate the Nismo partnership was the TAG Heuer Carrera NISMO Calibre 16 Day-Date Chronograph Special Edition. This 43mm titanium watch is presented in bead-blasted black with grey and red highlights, ceramic bezel with tachometer scale, domed sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both sides, decorated caseback and soft touch alligator strap with contrast stitching.

Jean-Claude Biver, chief executive officer of TAG Heuer and chairman of the watch division of LVMH group, explains: “We want innovation, audacity, and courage to return to the Le Mans course. Nissan NISMO is the perfect challenger, a pioneer when it comes to the technology in their cars, and also particularly in the way they communicate with young people using their massive social media presence. Just take a look at this car, it’s powerful, different, and breaks the mould. It’s the perfect embodiment of our #DontCrackUnderPressure campaign.”
