Struthers strikes out with build-to-order watch service

Struthers London has revealed details of a new a tailor-made service that will allow clients to select from existing models and create their own personalised watch.

Inspired by the challenges of designing a worldwide unique watch from scratch, the company said the offering will give customers a unique chance to build a watch that ticks all their boxes.

The variations, which include different precious metals, gemstones, straps, crowns and dials, theoretically allow for thousands of different options which all stem from a range of four base cases.

The first to be released is The Kelso, a petite 20mm faceted octagonal cocktail watch is available in 18ct white, yellow or rose gold.

With prices starting at £16,500, each watch is hand-built to order and takes between three and four months to complete.

The tailor-made range will exclusively rely on recommissioned vintage and antique watch movements, which have been selected by the Struthers and refined and modified in their Jewellery Quarter studio and workshops.

Only clients to the bespoke service will have the option of commissioning their in-house English movement due to be previewed in 2017.

Watchmaker Craig Struthers said The Kelso calls on the skills of heritage British crafts, this time in the detail of its engine turned dial.

“Promoting dying craft skills in Britain is integral to what we do. Working with craftsmen as passionate about their arts as I am about watchmaking is an absolute pleasure, and it is closer to the way watchmakers like me would have worked during the peak of British watchmaking centuries ago.”
