Speake-Marin releases first ever chronograph

Chronographs seem to be omnipresent among the new releases of 2014, perhaps as a result of consumers seeking watches of greater complication and English watchmaker Peter Speak-Marin obviously feels the time is right to release his first chronograph, the Spirit Seafire.

With all manner of high complication timepieces including tourbillions, minute repeaters and perpetual calendars under his belt, Speake-Marin has turned his attention to the chronograph.

“I have always wanted a chronograph to bear the Speake-Marin name,” said Speake-Marin. “It was just a matter of finding the right platform. The Speake-Marin Spirit collection struck me as the perfect environment. I felt I could harness the Spirit’s casual style and clean aesthetics to create a highly original chronograph design. A chronograph is also in keeping with the Spirit’s military inspiration – and that’s why I have christened it the Seafire, after the iconic plane formerly deployed by the British navy to protect its fleet.”

Legibility is key with Super-LumiNova on all indications including date while the Grade 5 titanium used for the 42mm case ensures a comfortable weight.

The Spirit Seafire features central hours and minutes, date at the 3 o’clock, white-lacquered seconds wheel at the 9 o’clock in the form of the Speake-Marin logo and signature Piccadilly case in polished titanium with straight-grained sides.

All of the indications are marked with white Super-LumiNova offering excellent contrast against the matt black dial during daylight hours and glow green after dark.

Speake-Marin’s rousing motto “Fight, Love & Persevere” is engraved on the solid caseback.
