Slide rule-inspired watch to launch on Kickstarter

It’s not often WatchPro.com reports on the latest watch projects making their way to crowd-funding platforms, but we’ll make an exception for the latest stylish innovation from French company, klokers.

Set to launch on Kickstarter in September, the klokers KLOK-01 pays tribute to the slide rule, the only port of call for complex calculations in the days before pocket calculators.

The time is displayed on the watch using three concentric wheels representing hours, minutes and seconds and can be read when aligned underneath a straight red line on a magnified section of the watch glass.

The Swiss-made watch is water resistant to 30m and uses a Ronda quartz movement and low-power consumption Lavet stepper morors.

The 44mm watch is the first timepiece project from klokers founders Nicolas Bouthering, president and artistic director, and Richard Piras, chief executive officer.

The case of the KLOK-01 is constructed from a composite metal polymer and features a patented detachable system that allows the watch head to be quickly and easily removed from its strap dock.

Straps in matte black leather, silky black leather, indigo leather, orange alcantara, mouse-gray alcantara and Newport yellow leather will be available from launch with two new additions planned annually.

The KLOK-01 is priced at US $389 (£250) and three colours – yellow, grey and indigo – will be produced in limited, numbered runs of 200 pieces each.

A discount price of US $199 (£127) will be offered interested parties registering at the klokers website.
