Serena Williams wins two Wimbledon titles wearing an Audemars Piguet

Not only did Serena Williams win her 22nd Grand Slam victory when she successfully defended her Ladies’ Singles title at Wimbledon this weekend, she joined an even more exclusive club by winning the tournament whilst wearing her sponsor’s watch.

Williams won her seventh Wimbledon title, beating German Angélique Kerber with an Audemars Piguet white Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph in rose gold on her wrist.

Whilst many tennis players have watch sponsors, very few play whilst wearing their watch and even fewer win. Those that do (Novak Djokovic we’re looking at you) can often be seen dashing to their kit bag to recover a watch for the winner’s photo call.

So while Williams’ win on Saturday saw her draw level with Steffi Graff’s own Grand Slam record, she has joined Rafael Nadal in becoming a major winner who wore her watch throughout the final game. Nadal is famous for wearing lightweight Richard Mille watches that were specifically developed to be worn during play.

The only lightweight aspect of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph that Serena wore was its rubber strap.

Not content with the Ladies’ Single title, Serena went on to win the Ladies’ Doubles with her sister Venus just a few hours later.
